My Diabetic Journey

Hello all!

My little online diabetes community has been steadily growing, so I wanted to share with the masses my diabetic journey.  It's not quite as dramatic as some others, but it's not a competition, right?

I'll never forget the summer that I was diagnosed with diabetes, it happened between my first and second year of junior high.  I was an avid baseball and tennis player back then, and I began to feel extremely tired and drinking a lot of water.  I remember thinking that this was no big deal, after all my afternoons that summer were busy with all-star baseball tournaments in a neighboring cities and tennis on the weekends.  But after the fatigue continued, I complained to my mother about the symptoms who promptly took me to the doctor (diabetes runs in the family--flippin' genetics let me down).

I remember being very depressed when the diagnosis came through.  One day I'm a carefree youngster, then all of a sudden I have a disease that requires constant monitoring.  I felt as if my body had somehow let me down.  But instead of having a one-man pity party, I decided to pick myself up by the bootstraps and conquer this disease.  I am proud to say that I am successfully managing this disease, and having a great time as a young adult.

Having to deal with diabetes at such a young age has given me a unique perspective on the world.  I feel like there is nothing I cannot accomplish now, and I am ready to take on this crazy world.  Hopefully this short story inspires everyone to live life to the fullest, because there is no excuse!

Welcome to my blog's new home!

Hello and welcome to my blog, This Diabetic Life, formerly teenwithdiabetes.jimdo.com!

I finally decided to move my blog away from the old platform to Google's Blogger.  Although this is a new location, the same ole content will be found here.  Specifically diabetes news, information, and anecdotes about living with with the lamest disease in the world.

I was diagnosed when I was in junior high, and had a rough time accepting the disease.  Needless to say, high school was not a great time for me, but I am excited about my new life as a college student and determined to live an amazing life despite my disease.

I blog out of dedication to diabetes advocacy, and I would love to open the lines of communication for anyone with the disease, and even for those who don't have it!  Please feel free to follow me on Twitter (@TeenDiabetesBlg) and Google+  and join my Google+ group This Diabetes Life.

Thanks for visiting, check back regularly, and enjoy!
